Version 0.6 of
Project Reality was released this week bringing with it a massive list of changes and additions including an overhauled commander assets system and new Militia Faction.
If you've not played the mod before you might be wondering what it's all about. Well, the clue is obviously in the title - they're striving to create a mod that's as realistic as possible. Kits such as Crewman, AA Rifleman, Sniper and Pilot are limited and must be requested before you can fly a jet, use artillery and so on. An important part of the commander role involves deploying assets such as bunkers, sand bags and artillery which then need to be built using the shovel kit item that many classes come with.
They've also got numerous new game modes, weapons, skins and more with a full British faction in the works. For a game built on the same engine with a similar focus on modern warfare, the team have already done well in creating gameplay that feels very different to Battlefield 2.
Overall the gameplay pace is slightly more measured as it only takes a few bullets to kill you, placing a strong emphasis on cautious movement, tactical play and team work. It's not for the feint hearted but if realism is your thing then you'll be pleased to hear they've already done a great job using the Battlefield 2 engine to achieve just that.
